Some people in India try to misinterpret Article 370 to create controversy: Hakim Yasin . Terms calling off Indo-Pak dialogue a negative development Srinagar, Aug 21: Reacting over a plea filed by a Delhi-based NGO in Supreme Court challenging the provisions of Article 370, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) chairman and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yasin Thursday said that some people in India were trying to misinterpret Article 370 to create a controversy. . In a statement to press, Hakim Yasin said, “In the case of Jammu and Kashmir, Article 370 has a specific background. Article 370 was incorporated in Constitution of India to maintain a distinct identity of Jammu and Kashmir in political map of the world. But unfortunately, it has been reduced to a husk through political fraud and constitutional abuse and now it seems that some elements were tactfully raking up this issue to divert attention from the main issue which is Kashmir problem.” . “Instead of raising hue and cry over the issue, it would be in the best interests of nation that provisions of Article 370 which have been eroded from time to time are restored without any delay as it acts as a bridge between the Union and the State,” he demanded. The PDF chairman also expressed concern over the reports that some vested interests were trying to polarize the state ahead of Assembly elections. “They issue irresponsible statement which are aimed at to divide people on regional and religious lines. People of the state have been rejecting such elements since 1947 who want to divide them on the basis of region, religion and caste and I am confident this time also they will face the same fate,” he said. . “The communal overtures of such elements are fraught with dangerous consequences for the ideals enshrined in the republican constitution of the country. There is also a dire need to protect and preserve the rich socio-cultural and religious diversity of the state and any division on regional, religious, ethnic or cultural basis is acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Hakim Yasin added. . On the decision of New Delhi to call off the proposed foreign secretary level talks with Pakistan, the MLA Khansahib said, “It is a highly negative development that casts a shadow on the atmosphere of reconciliation generated by the invitation to Nawaz Sharif during Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.” . He said Kashmir issue can never be resolved by the use of force or browbeating. “Kashmir is essentially a political problem and needs a political solution. I hope that all important stakeholders would understand the dynamics and consequences of this unfortunate problem and explore all peaceful options to settle it,” the PDF chairman hoped. . “During the time of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Dr Manmohan Singh, Hurriyat leaders used to visit Pakistan embassy and that country for talks and no one in India would raise any objections over it. But it is unfortunate that this time it has been made an issue,” he said and added such things would alienate Kashmiris further. . The PDF chairman appealed the government of India to focus on the development and unemployment issues in Kashmir as it was common man who was suffering due to the animosity between India and Pakistan.
