Some people might see that 90% of the critiques here come from liberal sources and think the page is anti-liberal. It is not supposed to be. Personally, I disagree a lot with conservatives and libertarians as well, when it comes to certain policies. This page is not about the policies. It is about the methods of argument. The methods of argument are where liberals, typically, are vastly worse than others. Here is a perfect example of typical argument fallacies. This is a list of 50 Ways To Know If You Are A Liberal. I will organize a few of them by fallacy. GENETIC - These are attacking the (conservative) source, instead of their policies. -You have left a restaurant because Fox News was on the television. -Even the thought of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck or Bill O’Reilly makes you sick. -Sarah Palin’s voice hits you like fingernails on a chalkboard. AD HOMINEM - Basically, the other guy is stupid, and youre not stupid, right? -You are able to form your own opinion without the influence of television. -You believe in, and have even read a book or two about science. -You can find Iraq on a map while understanding that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. -You learn from your mistakes. -You like books, not viewing them as merely being kindling. -You rarely make spelling errors. STRAW MAN - Easily attacking a ridiculous premise. -You care about the environment. -You prefer to breathe non-cancer-causing air and drink non-toxic water. -You understand that “trickle-down economics” is like a “pissing contest” in that nobody ever wins – everyone just ends up getting wet. IGNORANCE - Constantly using the word corporation without knowing what it means. (Yes, they said this three times). -You believe government is “of the people, for the people and by the people” and not just for corporations. -You believe people are more important than corporations. -You do not believe corporations are people too, friend. HYPOCRISY - Can you catch it here? -You are colorblind when it comes to race or national origin. -You try to live up to the ideals Jesus taught such as brotherly love, taking care of the sick, the elderly, the poor. -You consider all the facts on issues instead of calling your grandparents and asking them what to think. theeverlastinggopstoppers/2014/07/50-ways-liberal/ I could go into more detail, but this post would be way too long. On the other side, I found this link, which was a similar list by conservatives. buzzfeed/erinlarosa/things-only-people-raised-by-conservative-parents-will-un#1yldbob Notice the difference? They say they watch Fox News (instead of walking out of a restaurant) and listen to Rush (instead of feeling sick thinking of him). The liberal list didnt say they watch MSNBC or CNN. Their strategy is in the negative; its not important what we watch, its important that we are so offended by Fox that we have to avoid it at all cost. This is why its so much easier to attack arguments from the left. They arent arguments, generally. The conservative list jokingly blames Obama when they spill the bowl of chips. The liberal list is full of genuine hate of the other side. It blinds them from using rational arguments. You might say this is anecdotal. These are themes Ive noticed across many liberal sources, it is not cherry-picked. If you find me conservative articles that are filled with fallacies such as this Ill gladly critique it as well. I want to be fair.
