Some people say they are not religious but spiritual. They acknowledge that organised religion is a problem, even though they believe in God or a higher power. But its actually the other way around. Religion is fine. Belief in God is the problem. Religion without God is just a codified set of beliefs and practices, which we need to have as a society to work smoothly. Its the superstitious belief in an all powerful deity that leads to dogma in religion and fatalism in its followers. Communism was effectively a religion without a God. It lasted half a century. When it didnt work, people learned and moved on. But religion with a God has lasted 5,000 years. When people believe that a celestial Kim Jong is watching them all the time... you get a world that looks like North Korea if you compare it to what it could have been. Free thought becomes hard.
