Some random Bix tips for those making the trip to Bix for the first time this year: 1) You dont have to pay for parking, ever. Look for street parking closer to the river, not in one of the paid lots. Theres always space. This includes for the expo the night before. 2) If you want some Friday night entertainment, check out the Kids Bix and Battle up Brady (400m race up the hill for qualified runners) 3) There are TONS of bathrooms but they are scattered about. My favorites are the ones INSIDE the expo hall--not in the area before the expo hall, but actually inside of it along the wall. Most dont know about these. 4) The Quick Bix runners make a right turn at the top of Brady Street, before the 7 milers. Then the 7 milers turn right. If you want room to run/pass, youre better of starting on the far left side of the road. Of course, past a certain point the race will be congested. 5) If you didnt lie about your finishing time, remember that many around you did. Dont be afraid to work your way to the front of your corral. On the left side. 6) The hills are very challenging, so dont push yourself too hard early on. I always find the stretch from the turnaround (3.5) to mile 5 to be the worst. 7) The finishing stretch is deceptively long, dont pick it up right at the turn unless youve got a lot left! Youll be feeling fast after the downhill but remember you have a ways to go. 8) That 61 year old lady in front of all the elites? She is trying to beat the elites to the finish for a $2,500 prize (she gets a 3.1 mile head start) 9) You most likely see the elites go by on their way back in, hang toward the middle of the road if you want to get a good look. Cheer for Meb! 10) The post race party is HUGE, the food is free and unlimited. Only take something if you REALLY want to eat it. You dont want to have your hands full and find something you would have liked better! Normally they have lots of hostess products, soda, beer, chips, popsicles and much more. Hope everyone has a good time this weekend wherever you are running!
