Some scary news about jobs if we keep the current Mayor. Dave - TopicsExpress

Some scary news about jobs if we keep the current Mayor. Dave Cull has told us his response to more jobs for Dunedin is to tell the CEO that he wants Council employees and contractors to increase the minimum wages they pay from $13.75 to $18.40. He tells us that Paul Orders has confirmed that this can be done within current budgets. How is it that he could believe: 1. He can sort this out with the CEO without reference to Council. 2. He can do this within existing budgets. All contractors would start by renegotiating their contracts up by 34% for the wages component of the contract for a start. 3. That he can spend any money within existing budgets. It is spoken for and not his to give. 4. That when the most pressing issues according to the satisfaction survey are rates rises, debt and jobs this plan would achieve any of that. 5. That it will increase employment options in Dunedin to put the minimum wage up by 34%. 6. That you would think of doing this without the support of the Chamber of Commerce and the Otago Southland Employers Association. This is not the way to increase jobs in Dunedin. And you can quote me.
