Some security guards at supermarkets and malls are criminals in disguise. When you drive in with your car, and the guard requests to check your vehicle, the guards mostly request to check your vehicle. This is not entirely a bad practice, only that some guards take advantage of that vulnerable moment to look for what to steal from your car as they carry out a security check. Instances of theft from cars especially at shopping malls are on the increase and security guards are increasingly on spotlight for either colluding with criminals to steal from cars or doing the work themselves. Management of the shopping malls where such theft occurs dont take customer complaints about the issue seriously. They promise to investigate but never really do so. To avoid being a victim: Never leave any valuable items in your car while you are out shopping. In the event that you have your friend/relative accompanying you to the shopping mall in your car, it is advisable to let that person wait for you in the car while you go do the shopping, instead of taking huge risks by both of you going in. Its better for one to stay in the car and take care of it and any valuables that may be desirably left in the car. Be safe!
