Some shots from yesterdays study circle on Pakistan protection ordinance .The act, according to several activists, lawyers and constitutional experts, contravenes the very foundations of the Pakistani constitution and the basic precepts of human rights. Despite this, most opposition parties, including the PTI and the PPP, have signed on in support of the law after initial shows of resistance. It is also worth bearing in mind that in most of Pakistan’s administrative peripheries, the draconian precepts of the PPA are already in effect: People in Balochistan, Sindh and Waziristan are routinely picked up, disappeared and eliminated without charge or due process, often because of their opinions about the Pakistani state.
