Some things I learned on our drive: 1. Truckers seem to derive endless joy from driving along side another truck while driving slowly, thereby blocking anyone from passing. We call this "buddy trucks" because I always imagine the drivers saying to each other "Hey! I drive stuff" "I drive stuff too!" "We both drive stuff!" "What kind of stuff do you drive?" etc., through their windows. 2. There is a coffee desert along 80 through Iowa and Illinois. I did not prepare for that. 3. The cat who likes to think of himself as adventurous and outgoing is actually a big baby who panics when he doesnt feel in total control of his situation. He also travels much better if I throw a blanket over his crate. On the other hand, the cat who is usually jumpy, nervous, and easily upset is actually very adaptive and resilient under stress.
