Some thoughts for the weekend: 1. John Amama Mbabazi is a cool and collected man. He remains a central figure in the politics of the coming 7 years. 2. The sentiment around recent cabinet changes has convinced me that many in this country live in fear of what is to come. We need to liberate our citizens from fear. I believe we should he concerned but not afraid. 3. The decision of South Sudan government to expel non citizens whichever way it is ratiknalized or spun around should anger every Ugandan. Two reasons: we spend billions of shillings and real Ugandan lives over many years to ensure their peace and in return, they lock up our businessmen who try to defend their businesses when soldiers grab these businesses, come here to beat up poor waitresses in bars, drive like maniachs in our streets, then wake up one morning and throw our children out of their country -even aid workers. When i become president, i will give every one of them 72 hours to leave this country. As Trade minister I will block their membership of the EAC should they ever apply. As a citizen, I am going to make noise about this. But the second reason is that Uganda is the only country in the region with an immigration policy that hurts its citizens while protecting foreigners. If our young and skilled people cannot get work permits elsewhere in the region, neither should the rest. What is good for the goose ought to be good for the gander. I have no kind words for government of Uganda on this one. It is not a regional problem, our government has let us down and betrayed us in unforgivable terms. 3. The Scottish referendum has demonstrated to us that no matter how long it takes, difficult questions do not go away. They deserve to be answered. There are difficult questikns in our history and politics, we need to ponder and answer them. They will not go away. 4. The mystery of time: we have a lot of time to accomplish much. But thebloss of a friend who was only turning 36 raises questions on how to accomplish a lifetime of achievements within the brevity of life. Invest in people. That investment will outlive you. Happy weekend folks!
