Some thoughts on todays events in my hometown. As I drove to my parents house tonight, the streets were uncharacteristically silent for a Friday in the summer. There were less than thirty people visible between 440 and Tuers Ave. I hope residents are safely home with loved ones, praying for peace and healing in our city As I passed the Walgreens where Det. Santiago was killed I was frustrated that they didnt have the sense to acknowledge him on their sign rather than the word, welcome. Kudos to Maryellen McLaughlin and staff for conducting a beautiful funeral befitting a hero. Mayor Fulop, your eulogy was moving and beautiful. Youve led and handled this tragedy with grace. May the healing begin in our great city. God bless Detective Melvin Santiago, his family, the JCPD and the residents of Jersey City.
