Some took my recent comments as anti solider and veteran. They are not. Please allow me to explain. When I worked in a Naval Hospital as a Corpsman (a Medic) I learned in our training that the sad and tragic truth that the most common dying words of young men on battlefields is mommy. At the end of life, when the body goes into shock and the mind begins to shut down...then regresses....sometimes all that can be screamed is the words that one knew as a helpless toddler who knows nothing other than the comfort that mommy can bring. But in this case, no comfort or help from mommy...or anyone else comes....only death. Its also common for people who die on a battlefield to soil their cloths with a bowel movement or vomit up bile. This is the reality of war. Not video games, Army of One recruiting adds designed to mimic video games, not propaganda films and not what the politicians want us to believe. Sadly, today we are not fighting for freedom we are fighting to make certain people richer. Very often the armchair war hawks are those who would not go...they are happy to send others. Im pro peace. Im anti war unless in clear defense. Im also against nationalism. Nationalism is when we have blind flag waiving or worship of symbols and uniforms. This is profoundly dangerous as when people worship uniforms then they start to stop caring about ideas. Then, all it takes is for one bad politician to say something is for the greater good and have it executed by troops....even if evil. So when I see nationalistic cheerleaders who would never go themselves, celebrating war or I see people....both civilian and soldier...fooled by the words of politicians to support fighting based on lies I dont think it patriotic I think it reprehensible. I am not against the troops, Im for them...I want them home and safe, not dying for lies. The worst enemies, in my opinion, of the troops are people who blindly flag waive while allowing failed policies of continual war to leave men broken, beaten, with record suicide numbers or dying on a battlefield screaming mommy. If you flag waive for propaganda films and think that war is glorious and fun you are not a supporter of the troops you are harming them. If you support this current course of action of never ending war, Id respectfully ask you to reconsider and think about it as well as the path that nationalism leads to.
