Some updates on potholes, roads and MBPJ... Short term 1. MBPJ has just agreed to appoint 12 additional contractors to patch the existing potholes, this is critical for safety. I know patching doesnt last long, but its needed to elimate holes on the road that can cause injury or even death. 2. A lot of the badly surfaced portions of roads are linked to the sewage pipe laying works, of which MBPJ has just issued a stop work order this week. These contactors, which are not appointed by MBPJ but by Federal Gov, have to repair all the roads before they can resume their sewage works. MBPJ can also step in to repair for them and deduct from the deposit they have placed with MBPJ if they fail to do so. Long Term 1. Under new MB Azmin, Selangor will spend RM600mil this year on road resurfacing, more than double that was spent in the past. Roads need to be resurfaced every 7 to 10 years, and after this rainy season, between April to October, you would be seeing a lot of resurfacing activities not just in PJ, but all over Selangor 2. We need a more stringent standard to address utility cutting the roads. Unfortunately, we are saddled with this legacy problem in PJ and older parts of Selangor where all the utility - TNB, Telekom, Syabas, IWK, etc are below the road. When they have to repair something, they will damage the road. Im in discussion with MBPJ on this, to improve the standards 3. Enforcement against utility company that damages the roads has to be much stronger.
