Here are a few good ones from our friends at American Water and Energy Savings: 1) Store drinking water in the refrigerator rather than letting the tap run every time you want a cool glass of water. Don’t keep the refrigerator door open any longer than necessary. An energy efficient refrigerator with a coldwater dispenser addresses both of these issues. Also, a few ice cubes will quickly cool a tepid glass of water. 2) Don’t use your toilet for trash. Dispose of tissues, cotton swabs, insects and other such waste in a proper container, not in the toilet. 3) Retrofit all wasteful household faucets by installing aerators with flow restrictors. Aerators enable a minimal water stream to rinse effectively. As such, they are most effective in the kitchen sink, and anywhere we wash our hands regularly. Aerators only cost a few cents a piece and are often provided free of charge by water utilities.
