Some years ago, when we had the eve of Christmas fall on my radio day at kpsu, I played 3 hours of Christmas songs all morning long and I played such a variety of songs, practically unparalled in broadcasting history at that or any other station. During this time of advent, we’ve looked at quite a number of Christmas carols. It is said about this carol, that it was the only one which could be sung in the Church of England, being that it was not based on folk songs. You’ll hear that it’s probably not as catching a tune as “I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus”, in fact there’s one song I really want to present at some point, maybe Christmas day, but this song is magnificent when you look at the totality of the lyrics. What ties it together for me, is that the announcement of the Lamb of G-d’s birth, was made to the Shepherds and He Himself is also the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep. Also consider the emphasis on King (formerly a shepherd) David early on, being that David was not only a shepherd, but that he was a man after G-d’s own heart, which is something we need to strive towards. https://youtube/watch?v=IgYzJDxxzN8
