Some years back, I used to walk Star TheReindeer sometimes, to help out her caretaker. One day, toward dusk, I was taking her on her lead down the Park Strip in Anchorage when a pot-bellied pig came seemingly out of nowhere, making a beeline for us. So there I was, trying to keep the pygmy pig and the reindeer apart, stamping my feet at the pig. The pig turned then and ran across the street and behind a house. I walked over to the front door of the house with Star and rang the bell. A woman came to the door and said she did indeed own a pet pig. I told her it had gotten loose. She thanked me and shut the door. And heres why I remember this at all: She never acknowledged that I was standing on her doorstep with a reindeer.
