Somebody has been lied to. The conventional wisdom in the music business states that meaningful music will not be supported, and far too many popular black American artists respond in kind by making meaningless music. Without much objection or resistance the African-American artist falls in lock step with a mantra of dumbing down the repertoire. But then we look across the ocean at a group like Steel Pulse who have spent an entire career (35 years) entertaining, educating and uplifting, and we wonder how they could pull that off. Moreover, they have refused to dumb down and play the fool. What do they know that the black American artist is afraid to know?
