Somebody wanting to wish us a Happy New Year, a party goer wanting a lift home from the pub and a man who wanted us to get him back into a pub after he’d been thrown out… …just some of the unnecessary 999 calls we got last New Year’s Eve! In an average 24 hour period we get 500 999 calls - on NYE last year we got 1,700 between midnight and 7am. This is an extremely busy time for us so please #thinkbeforeyoucall 999 or 101. Calls like this put peoples lives at risk as it may result in a delay to the emergency services answering genuine calls for help - #thinkbeforeyoucall!
