Someone asked me about books vs. movies. My response: We say the book was better because the story we see in a book is of our own envisioning. Movies show the story as someone else envisions it. We will always find our interpretation superior because we appeal to our own biases. When we spend days or weeks filling in the gaps books leave to our imagination, we cultivate characters with whom we grow and come to cherish. When a film director takes charge of our beloveds, there can be no satisfactory result. In other words, these are disparate mediums: do you want to see the story under your direction, or under someone elses? There is no right answer, but know what youre getting into so you arent disappointed--either way. There are exceptions, of course. Sometimes authors grant their readers with too much or too little control, leaving us aimless or bored. When the story lines of these books are too tempting to resist, the film directors version is better because its more than an interpretation. Its a repair. So stop complaining and kiss me, you fool.
