Someone asked why I believe the Quran to be the word of Allah. - TopicsExpress

Someone asked why I believe the Quran to be the word of Allah. Here is a a short and quick impromptu answer: I believe that Muhammad bin Abdullah was His Messenger ﷺ due to the miraculous events related to his person which were reported by eye witnesses and transmitted to us, with each successive group in the chain (from the witnessing of the even up to us) comprised of so many individuals that it would be impossible for them to agree upon a lie – events which vouch that Muhammad ﷺ is telling the truth in what he says, namely: that he is Allahs Messenger, conveying His words. To this can be added additional supporting reasons, such as the inimitability of the Quran. (n.b.: Folks familiar with basic Islamic epistemology [e.g., intro of the Nasafiyyah] will note that this relies upon different channels for obtaining justified true beliefs: the word of individuals assisted by divine miracles, then mass transmission. While mass transmission of empirical observations is recognized as a source of knowledge in contemporary [secular] epistemology, evidentiary miracles are not. So this argument is not particularly compelling to individuals who deny the possibility of miraculous events and I have no idea what responses are available to Humes objections. Epistemology is not my field.)
