Someone famous and noteworthy once said, A house divided cannot stand. Our Lord Jesus Christ said it this way, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: (Matthew 12:25). It is evident by studying the writings of Paul that he preached and taught against division in the church, yet he had some divisive issue with John Mark. The Scripture is not clear as to the issue but it was enough to separate the two as both of their ministries continued. Paul continued with Silas while Barnabas went with John Mark. Interesting enough, this separation progressed the missionary efforts of the Gospel. Instead of one team, two teams were on the missionary field spreading the good news! Interesting isnt it? Although we might not agree all the time! Although there may be some divisive issues! We can accomplish more for the kingdom of God! I like what Paul wrote in his first epistle to the church at Corinth - For we are LABOURERS together with God... Gods grace is such a valuable component of the Christian faith! We depend upon Gods grace for salvation, yet we also WORK together with God. Gods grace is TREMENDOUS! Not only is it the UNMERITED favor of God towards us, but His grace is an impartation of ability whereby we are able to PERFORM his will! Proof texts - Philippians 2:13-14; 4:13; Colossians 1:28-29; John 15:1-6. My favorite is found in Psalm 127:1 Except the Lord build the house, they LABOUR in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman WAKETH in vain. Now, this clearly indicates that BOTH God and man are BUILDING and WATCHING together. What a team! Let me say it this way, Apart from Gods grace WE can DO nothing, but when we COMBINE our effort with Gods GRACIOUS ENABLING, we can perfect holiness in the fear of God (2 Corinthians 7:1).
