Someone just said on Facebook that GEJs government is the worst Nigeria has ever had. Dear Buharists and Anti-Jonathanians. In our bide for positive change, let us be beacons of true. This is certainly not true. GEJs government has underperformed - devastatingly - but it is, in no way, the worst we have ever had. Things were terrible during Abachas time. I am sure of this because I still remember that it was during Abachas time that I had to learn how to make a fire with firewood to cook. (Before Abacha, I never needed that skill.) We cannot justifiably demand change in our government or leadership, if we ourselves refuse to go through that same process. For the change we seek to come about, we must find the political maturity to say - Dear Jonathan, you tried your best, but your best just isnt good enough for us. Please step aside. We have the right to have certain expectations of our leaders, but we also have the responsibility to ourselves to always make it a point to give them a cheerful pat on the back when they fulfill our expectations. We also owe it to ourselves to give them a break when our harsh political terrain and social issues are the reason why they can get certain things done as quickly or as efficiently as we need them to be done. You cannot expect people to perform well, when you deny or wilfully ignore or fail to acknowledge their achievements. This is human nature.
