Someone on reddit actually tried to suggest that software piracy was somehow noble and altruistic because it helps the small studios get their product out there. Umm... not really. We have demos to get our product out there. If you want to play a little bit of the game to see if itd be your thing, dont pirate the whole thing, play the demo. Most times theyre going to give you just enough of a taste of how the game is that you can then decide if you want to buy it. That and the little-fish which are the indie game devs dont usually have stock-portfolios or slush-funds to keep them afloat like the big studios do. Sure, you might find an indie game that strikes it big such as Super Meat Boy or the Other Brothers but those are very special cases. The rest of us usually dont make as much as you might think... Hell, ill be lucky if I manage to break even with this game. Sure, I want it to be a big hit but I have to accept that I may never peak more than a couple thousand in sales in the first year. Thats why you should not pirate indie games. You never know if the people that made it are relying on it to give them the funds to continue doing what they love and its a very pitiful sight to see someone have to give up on their dreams... Especially if they have to give up because there were more pirated copies of their game than there were legitimately purchased games. Piracy doesnt necessarily hurt the big studios but for the little-fish, it can ruin us.
