Someone previously posted this video link a while back but Im reposting it for anyone who may have not seen it: 14 May 2009 10:30 local time Kandahar Air Base, Afghanistan - After an uneventful sortie, two BAe Harrier GR9 aircraft deployed with 1 Sq RAF returned to Kandahar. After their landing was delayed by ten minutes due to heavy air traffic, Air Traffic Control requested both aircraft to expedite their landing and clear the runway. The wingman landed first due to low fuel reserves and then received a hostile missile alert resulting in the pilot releasing flares on the ground as a defensive measure. The mishap aircrafts rate of descent was too steep and at an altitude of 180 feet, the pilot selected full power hover stop as he attempted to counter the descent. The descent continued and the tail struck the ground 30 feet from the runway threshold collapsing the outriggers, main gear and nose gear. As the aircraft continued to slide along the runway, the under wing stores (bombs, rockets, recce pod, targeting pod and drop tanks) caught fire. When the flames spread forward to engulf the entire aircraft, the pilot successfully ejected using his Martin-Baker Mk-12H seat. youtube/watch?v=XZ5iizDm0AQ
