Someone recently posted an article about the lack of vision in current science fiction cinema, using the current reboot of Star Wars as an example. I shall put aside minor arguments, such as the fact that Star Wars is space fantasy, and make a different point. The one thing cinema can do is bring a vision of space to the masses. Not everyone can go into space, but a huge screen can bring a taste of space to everyone. And the more awe-inspiring, exciting and deadly space appears, the better. For we sometimes loose sight of what is out there. And how dangerous it is. But if we can be nudged to imagine we can dream again. Dream of the stars. And become a bit more interested in getting there ourselves.
