Someone recently stated to me that true atheists are hypocrites for abiding gods laws, on which our nation was founded. Now, Ive been asked a multitude of questions that range from valid to full blown retarded. But this made me laugh a little, as I might be the first one thats ever heard something this stupid. Folks, I follow the laws of MAN. If I murdered someone in broad daylight right now, Ill leave all my material possessions to the person who can point out where god is during my arrest, trial, sentencing, and eventual incarceration. I follow these laws for two simple reasons: 1) I have a pretty good life, despite a few qualms, and I really dont want to rot in jail, and 2) some of these laws are good ideas. The fact that an atheist mirrors behavior suggested by the bible shouldnt denote hypocrisy; it might suggest that youre reading a part of the bible that DOES exude a shred of morality, and any decent person can agree with what is being said. I prefer a little more consistency. How am I gonna say that I believe murder is wrong, but then turn around and say that someones wife should be killed in front of her fathers house because she wasnt a virgin? And yes, it does say that. And a lot of people try to argue that atheists use the Old Testament to make our case, when its outdated and less relevant. Well, you guys have NO problem using Deuteronomy and Leviticus to justify your dumbass crusade against marriage equality. But when I say something controversial that pertains to a conventional marriage, Im the one whos being ridiculous. And its kind of a moot point to be calling ME the hypocrite.
