Someone said the other day that m___ys have a selfish gene, perhaps we carry a far more selfish version that is able to classify people we help into thevar’s and non thevars – or keralites and non-keralites, Ceylonese and non-cyelonese, ad infinitum… Yet our most adored scripture point to the unity of all life, but between worship of one divine source and practicing common sense in daily life, we allow the selfish gene to overwhelm us to the point of destroying the larger community….when a community has such a weak DNA operating in our blood, is there even a need for external enemy, we are our own worst enemy….some of you who know me personally would be shocked I make such deadly statement, if at all it is to provoke the saner side of you to act in every which way to see all as one and serve all as one…….for we cannot control behaviour of thousands others like during thaipusam, but in the smaller circle that we operate in, we can bring about mind set change and fundamental principle every indian needs to wake up to in this information age, the power of networking, the power of self reliance, and the power to know that once a goal is desired, the universe is listening and pathways will be formed to bring you from here to there…. There is scope for optimism for those who adopt new ideas and practice it in their own lives, for changing the collective, that is quite another story…..
