Someone sent me a message asking me to point them in the right direction to start a dog rescue. This was my response: Run the opposite direction!!! lol....seriously though, you have no idea how cut throat this business is. You would think that if you do something good, how could it go wrong. People will judge every little decision you make and it hurts. You are also faced daily with the worst of the human race. You have to bite your tongue and be professional, even when you want to cry and tell them to do it themselves if they think they can do better. You have to kiss the butts of people who do not care at all about the dogs, just to save them. You have to be able to stand beside of a dog, kiss their snout and tell them they were loved while the are being put to sleep because even you could not save them. People say mean, hurtful things to you because you chose to euthanize to end the suffering. Suffering inflicted by the hands of someone else, yet only you care enough to be there with them. People get mad at you for choosing not to fight certain things because you, and only you, knows that the consequences to the dogs if you fight. You have to give up on having an orderly, clean house. Doors and corners will be chewed up, you can never walk barefooted in your house again. You will become accustomed to poop and puke. You give up on ever being able to wear black again. You notice every dog, everywhere you go. You get asked all the time, how many dogs do you have now. or Have enough dogs? You have to be strong to do this. It is rewarding though. When you save a cute puppy from the pound or an old dog that someone has thrown away, and you get to love them, return them to health and find them a loving forever home. When you see updated pictures of them happy and loved in the new home that you found them. When they look at you with those grateful eyes. Yes, I would choose to do this if I had to decide all over again; but Ive become more tough skinned, antisocial and less trusting of people because of this decision.
