Something About Mary…. Anyone who has met Mary Maguire can say that there is something very different and very special about this woman. You would never know by looking at her face but Mary is currently in the middle of facing her fourth battle with Thyroid Cancer & habitual Kidney Stones. This battle started back in 1991 when at a Horse Show Mary awoke to find a lump the size of a gulf ball at her neck. She had just recovered from her first episode of Kidney Stones & had to have her thyroid removed & went through radiation for the cancer. Mary didn’t let this close battle with death slow her down in fact she sped her life up despite dying twice in the process not from cancer but from kidney stones. Over the years Mary has had over 23 Lithotripsy’s to crush her Kidney Stones. In 2009 the cancer returned & Mary repeated the radiation. This proved to be unsuccessful as the cancer returned once again but now in her lymph nodes. In August of 2011 Mary had a Bi-Lateral Neck Dissection & had 52 lymph nodes removed. Complications from the surgery resulted in Mary fighting for her life once again & having to have two additional surgeries in that same week of 2011. Severe lymphodema has kept Mary down for most of 2012 & 2013 only to find that the cancer is still present. The Battle continues…. A smile, something that makes you laugh, a pair of super high heels, an awesome Mary’s Margarita or The question “How can I help you?” is our Mary. She attributes her strength to come from the support from friends, family & strong faith in God & Jesus Christ to have helped Mary to get through the many obstacles that she has encountered. Mary graduated from Anthony Wayne in 1984, gave 7 years to Lucas County as a 4-H Horse Advisor. She became an All Breed Horse Judge & traveled the Midwest Judging both English & Western Horse Shows. Mary was noted as one of the youngest judges to ever Judge at the Michigan State Fair and was nominated to Judge the Miss Rodeo America Pageant in Las Vegas Nevada. In the career world Mary worked as an Interior Designer & Fashion Stylist, Jewelry Designer, Horse Show Judge, Breeder & Trainer, a Computer Engineer, and a superb Bartender & Tavern Owner. Mary wishes to get better & continue her schooling to become a Mind, Body & Wellness Practitioner. This will also certify her to be a Holistic Nutritionist, Hypnotherapist & Life Coach. Mary is a member of the American Legion Post 384 Auxiliary, attended & has been active in helping St Joseph’s Maumee. Currently greets at Cedar Creek Church & helps out with events throughout the Community. We ask that you help us to show Love, Friendship & Faith to Mary in her battle with cancer. She needs our help more and more as time moves forward. She gets under your skin in a good way & will teach & open your eyes to many things we take for granite. Her optimism is contagious & the love she shows to others is envied by many.
