Something I find tragically interesting is how people in this country have been complaining about Muslims supposedly wanting to change things, like having Subway serve food according to Halaal standards (In the UK- yes Americans complaining about this). This makes me think of two things: (1) When I was dating a Jewish girl it was surprising to me how hard it was to find Kosher food items. Over the time of the relationship I learned to look for Kosher items in supermarkets and learned about how certain manufacturers produce Kosher items. I am almost certain that this had to consciously happen at some point, effecting a change. (2) I think back to the separate but equal laws and have to wonder if my fellow Americans think about this as well, or have they forgotten about our countrys racist, unfair past? I know for a fact that whites would say why do they (blacks) want us to change our (whites) way of living? Why cant they live in their own black communities, work in their own black businesses, observe their faith in their own black churches? As Americans we have had all kinds of ethnicities and religions since the very beginning of this countrys history. Americans are Jewish, Catholic, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and who knows what else. How are we in the 21st century and still spouting hate to our own people? When are the people of the United States, land of the free, home of the brave, going to acknowledge that all the different parts (dating back to the ethnically diverse population of the American Revolution - no they were not all British by any measure and did not speak the same language either) that make up this great country are essential?
