Something I have come to realise after reading a whole bunch of submission guidelines for literary magazines, literary agents, and publishers. These people are just awful. Generalization, of course, but the amount and degree of pretense I am encountering is incredible. It reads like: Needs groundbreaking literary masterpieces of utmost quality. Must be experimental, with a unique, narrative voice. Must dazzle us with concise structure. Focus especially on believeable and interesting characters, and storylines that have never been concieved by any person before. No genre fiction. Yeah, okay, good luck with that you guys.
