Something I was wondering about today kind of bothered me...why are there no female Genius/Savant/Child Prodigy characters either in fiction, sci-fi, or non-fiction? Ive cast about all day trying to think of any and the closest I got was River Tam in Firefly, but thats not quite what Im going for here. Im thinking more along the lines of Dr. Basher in DS9, Stephen Hawking in real life, or Sherlock Holmes. Statistically speaking, there should be just as many female geniuses as male geniuses, right? Do I just have a blind spot in my knowledge or am I on to something here?
