Something I wrote on Dec 08, 2013 after AAPs strong showing in Delhi. Unfortunately, they tried to scale up too fast and proved all my analyses wrong. They didnt take enough time in Delhi to prove themselves. They could have done much better in 2019 rather than going all out in 2014. Only hope is that they dont disintegrate now. {{ Status Update from Dec 08, 2013}} Aam Aadmi Party - A lesson in Building an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a startup, AAP seems to be following the Lean Startup methodology, quite successfully.They have taken one city as their first experimental setting. Their MVP [i,e Delhi Elections] has proven that it has the ability to make a dent in a small part of the ecosystem/market. Next Word: SCALE. Scale can only be achieved when you make your product work and prove its effectiveness, efficiency etc. They can start to do that only if they come in power, which seems unlikely in the current scenario. So, IMO they should take this victory as a huge shot in the arm, a super morale-booster. Now, they are pretty sure that the market needs their product. Scaling right now, though, will have disastrous consequences. Rather, they ought to start working towards that scale. This will happen when they can start being recognized as a national party which will only happen over a period of time. They have to build up this organization and take it to all parts of the country. Identifying people who are working at the grassroots and bringing them into the fold is the way forward. Build the product and the movement from ground-up. Take enough time to prove to the market that AAP can work everywhere and then hit up the national scene and take over the market. They can afford to take this time, for it is pretty sure that not many competitors can just start coming into the scene by taking the same route. In other words, Barrier to Entry is very high. }}
