Something To Be Thankful For, Day # 290: never too busy. While on my bike trainer yesterday (too cold to bike outside now), I was watching Gods Not Dead and realized something for the first time (even though Ive seen this movie 5 times already). In the scene where the young, attractive reporter was told by her doctor for the first time that she has cancer, her initial reply was I dont have time for cancer, Im too busy. I felt something sharp in my chest because I realized that before 2009, God gave me many warning signals that I was going down the wrong path in my quest for happiness, but I didnt listen because I was too busy. Im kinda glad that He didnt use cancer to get my attention, but He did use some pretty painful things (massive $ losses in the stock market; sleeping with one eye open in the middle of winter fearing my phone would ring and a tenant would tell me that their furnace stopped working; finishing an Ironman and feeling like a winner, but going back to feeling empty again after about 3 days; etc.). What I didnt realize was that all the busyness got me deeper and deeper into the hole I was digging myself. If youre reading this and have not yet made peace with God, your reason is probably that you are too busy. Take the advise from someone whose senselessbusyness almost killed him: if all that busyness does not involve God, you are going to be disappointed, over and over again. Know that God, the Lord of all creation, is also busy trying to get you back to Him. Thank You, Lord, for never giving up on us, for never stopping Your pursuit of our love.
