Something any Realtor could have told you all along! For a 2,000 square foot house, that means $100,000 added to value. That means a potential boost to the tax coffers, but it also means that the tax RATE could be lowered. More people will build in buildable areas, and that is a bonus to the town budget. Any town that shortchanges its schools is shortchanging ALL their citizens. Well supported, excellent schools will pretty much pay for themselves. The schools will be self-sustaining in their own budgets, allowing the remainder of the property taxes to fund other necessary town budget items. Additionally, EVERY property owner (primary AND second homes) will benefit from having value added to their properties, which will also be easier to sell. It is imperative that towns do not take actions that remove or negate the perception that their schools are a hot commodity
