Something beautiful happened here this evening. You all know by now that I adopted Helens 6 chinchillas. There is one named Darlene who has been living separated from the others for quite some time, years actually. The reason is she used to room with two other chinnies and they were found dead in the cage. There was no sign of fighting, however to be safe she has been alone since then. Helen gave me 3 girls, Baby, Buttercup and Darlene and 3 boys and each night I set up a huge runway that goes from the whole foyer/ hall into the office of my house. While this goes on the boys are free in a 16x14 room. The runways have been divided so Darlene can sniff and see baby and buttercup but not be together. Anyway..hope you are following This evening as I was making music lesson videos, I looked to my left where the girls were in the runway and noticed only one chinchilla was visible to me... Buttercup. I of course freaked out and ran the 10 feet or so to see if they had escaped, were hiding, were in trouble. I looked and to my hearts delight there was Darlene and Baby in a hidey hut TOGETHER. Baby had squeezed through the gate that separated them to be with Darlene. I looked to see if anyone was hurt, any fur slip ( they drop fur as a deterrent to others) and NO... it was , and all was fine. I decided I would supervise and take down the barricade and for the next 4 hours the THREE chinchillas played , groomed each other without even one incident. It is just extraordinary.
