Something came to mind this morning... the opposite of life is not death, its indifference. as I watched little kids climb out of their dads police car to go to school. My heart sank when I thought he knows the reality that it could possibly be the last time he sees his children bc of another human beings stupidity. But, HE {as all officers} are currently under personal attack. I AM NOT REFERRING TO ANYTHING IN THE MEDIA !!! Im talking about a personal level. I hear nothing but negative comments toward officers. Im tied into several police departments and YES they are some bad cops, I agree. Look at the women who beat and kill their children, do we hate all mothers because of the bad ones? No, so what makes this situation any different. But, officers have one of the worst jobs when they are the ones running into gunfire to save strangers, pulling over people in the middle of the night not knowing if that will be the last person they see and the entire time being labeled the bad guy in the story. Every time I spend shifts with officers and watch them get out of the car my heart races, having no clue what Im about to witness because the person in the car could very well be the one that refuses to go back to prison. Media is teaching the world that we shouldnt respect officers, we should fear them. I am surrounded my law enforcement people on every level from officers to lawyers and the professors that teach CRJU. I cannot tell you how many times I have sat down to lunch with my best friend and her scanner goes off and she has to leave that minute, whether shes had lunch or not. I see bold, strong, unselfishness and willing to give their life to protect the very people crucifying them.... Heres another perspective. Ill intern with the ATF before going to work for the FBI and the part that scares me is not the criminal aspect... its the fact that I will be seen as a threat when it reality its the other way around. So, does the fact that Ill wear a bullet proof vest and a ATF badge instantly turn me into the bad guy? NO, it does not but in societys eye I will be the problem, not the solution. A personal question you need to ask yourself: WHY do you feel the way you do? Is it a personal encounter or just what you SEE on tv because we ALL know things can be twisted and shaped to reflect what you want them to. Not to mention the very person you hate, will be the first person you call when your life is in danger. Just stirs something deep inside me that a person who would give their life and leave their children without a parent for what they believe is right is the same person that is criticized the most and hated solely for the title in front of his/her name.... “Science may have found a cure for most evils; but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all -- the apathy of human beings.” ― Helen Keller
