Something completely different today. Ive just been in the studio looking for some watercolour paper that I know ive got somewhere ( still havent found it :-( ) & I found these two portraits. I painted them both on consecutive days way back in 1990 when I was only 19 years old. They are a real blast from the past & some of the only early work I still have in my possession. I used to have a lot more, loads of drawings, my very first oils, a very thick stack of life drawings & even some sculpture but my dad threw it all away thinking that it wasnt any use to me anymore. When I think about the loss of all that artwork from the start of my career I do have to quickly think about something else to stop me getting upset. Its not that I think they are worth anything but rather more that it would be nice to look back on them & enjoy the journey, visually, from then to now. So moving on, these two portraits were not of anyone I knew & as far as I can remember I just copied them from photos from a magazine that my mum left lying around. Id just bought myself some new pastels & wanted to try them out. I dont think ive used pastels since, even though I purchased a new set a few years ago. Ive been preparing watercolour paper today & ill prepare some more if I can find what im looking for.
