Something important to think about is why women stay with their abuser, or go back to him. Often the woman is blamed for this and is told it cant be that bad or she would leave, or people simply refuse to believe its happening because the abuser is loveable and charming in public. Abusers seldom do their punching in public. Other reasons women stay: (1) they love the man and believe if they can just do things better he will stop hitting them, (2) they are afraid he will hurt them worse if they leave (3) they are afraid he will kill them and/or their children or other friends or family if they leave him. they know this is true because they see it on the news all too often, (4), the abuser has spent a lot of time separating the woman from her supporters. The man makes it impossible her to have visitors, and if she goes to their house, the man calls her 50 times while she visits, or insists she cannot visit with them unless he is with her. Eventually, people are sick of the whole thing and she feels its just not worth the effort, and stops trying to keep close relationships (5) financial issues. She doesnt believe she can make it on her own and support her children and that she has to stay with him at least until the kids dont need daycare, formula, diapers, etc. which all cost more than she can earn alone and finally (6) she isnt aware of the resources that are available to someone who is being abused, so she feels all alone in a position where there is no one to help her, and she has no options. See the information below and pass it along so the number gets out to as many people as possible. I would bet most of us know someone who is either being abused, or has been abused in the past.
