Something interesting just happened at the school board, on what - TopicsExpress

Something interesting just happened at the school board, on what many people would consider a relatively minor issue in the grand scheme of things. On the consent agenda was a request by education staff for an extended leave of absence, and the recommendation by District management was to deny that request. A teacher stood up to advocate for her co-worker, pointing out that similar requests for leave have been routinely approved for other staff, and the staff person wouldnt be making the request unless the need was dire. As usual, Janet Barnes made the motion to rubber stamp the recommendation of the superintendent. Garcia called for a second trustee to support. (Cue the crickets - dead silence). So Garcia gave Barnes a second. But the outcome of the vote was 3-2 (Kim, Hoffman & Larison) to reject the recommendation to deny the leave request. Could this be an indicator of the tide actually shifting toward the will of the people? We dont know; its just an interesting observation. Only time will tell. Board meeting video coming soon ..
