Something that has been playing on my mind was a discussion I had with a person at work about coal and how bad it is for the environment, the remark I got back was 1. surprising and 2. made me feel sick knowing that this person was probably no different from the majority of people today, we know its bad but hey like this person said just go plant some more trees. did you know for every kilo of coal that is burnt 4.8kg of CO2 is emitted (and thats not counting all the other bad stuff) and how much CO2 can a tree suck up in its lifetime before its ability to do so is heavily depleted only 1100kg. You look at that and think well how much coal is burnt worldwide, and how many trees are we cutting down, but inevitably when that tree is cut down for wood the CO2 is once again released, perhaps by rotting or by burning but inevitably it will once again be released. So much for carbon offsetting how about we just stop burning coal.
