Something that might be worthwhile to take into account when we talk about gentrification is that the recent influx of young white people into urban areas, and the resulting transformation of those urban areas to accommodate the new population, likely has a lot to do with changing gender relations. Suburbia is a phenomenon which seems to depend in large part on the prevalence of the nuclear family, and since 1980 the average age of first marriage has increased by about 3.5 years (and some 5.5 years since 1950). The suburbs simply arent an attractive living arrangement for a large part of this demographic, whose lives are increasingly taking place *outside* the home and who thus favor the access and convenience of urban settings to the monotony of track homes and lawns. Obviously the issue is way more complicated, but would others agree that this plays some role in the process?
