Something to Consider: As of May 1st an estimated twenty - TopicsExpress

Something to Consider: As of May 1st an estimated twenty million Americans have gained health insurance and enrolled under the health care reform law known as the ACA (Affordable Care Act), known in slang as “Obama Care” that otherwise would not have had insurance or would have had insufficient health care had it not been for revisions in health care due to the ACA. The number includes 7.8 million under 26 who currently are enrolled in higher education as dependents of their parents. These people can now continue with their education and not be forced to drop out. Also, due to the ACA, no one has to worry anymore about being dropped or refused insurance due to pre-existent medical conditions. In regards to Medicaid Expansion 14 States, all red I might add, have refused to expand Medicaid under the ACA. The result will be a denial of health care to the poorest residents of those States and will prevent access of a huge influx of federal money. This will cause an increased spending on uninsured people’s unpaid medical bills and will levy a heavy burden on hospitals and medical facilities. An estimated 3.6 million people will be affected. These States will forgo 8.4 billion dollars in federal funding and it will cost them one billion dollars for programs that partially compensate medical providers who care for the indigent. If all States had agreed to expand Medicaid under the ACA 16.2 million poor people would have gained access to healthcare. That would have taken a total enrollment by 2016 to 62.9 million people. Now due to the mid-term election where so many did not vote and a majority of those who did were filled with so much hate for President Obama (about 25% of the registered voters) the result could well be the repeal of the ACA. This will result in the loss of insurance for tens of millions or more and will remove the pre-existing clause which can result in the loss of one out of every two who are insured. Also the age limit of 26 will reverse causing millions to either drop out of school or lose health care. Employers will then be able to charge as much as 10% or more of an employee’s income just to have health care coverage while denying family members of coverage.
