Something to ponder. The United States is the world’s best consumer market. This means that many other economies depend on our own. But if American corporations continue to pay Americans poor wages the ability of American consumers to buy goods and services is diminished, and that in turn harms other economies. So in what way can American corporations be described as patriotic or responsible? Their greed not only damages American society, it damages other societies as well. They claim they can’t compete with cheap labor overseas. But they can afford to pay their CEOs lavishly. What they’re really saying is that they’re entitled to profit margins that destitute their workers. What they’re really saying is we have an obligation to tolerate their greed but they have no obligation to improve the quality of our lives. --Djelloul Marbrook
