Something to think about. Proverbs 30:8-9 Common English Bible (CEB) 8 Fraud and lies— keep far from me! Don’t give me either poverty or wealth; give me just the food I need. 9 Or I’ll be full and deny you, and say, “Who is the Lord?” Or I’ll be poor and steal, and dishonor my God’s name. The Lord knows what’s best for me.” When a person can say that, and say it with absolute certainty, his life is going to be a lot different than a person who can’t. The person who believes God has his best interest at heart doesn’t second-guess God’s ways. He can rest assured of God’s goodness no matter what happens. That’s the heart behind the words we read in Proverbs 30:8-9. We should have absolute trust in the Lord , I don’t want to find myself on either extreme in life. I don’t want to be so rich that I forget about you or so poor that I’m tempted to sin against You. I’m trusting You to give me what I can handle.” Let’s be honest, most of us pray for riches. Oh, we don’t ask because we’re greedy, we ask just in case something happens where we need it. But the trust we see here goes deeper than that type of thinking. It says, “I don’t want to overreach Your will for my life, because I know that what You’ve got for me is what’s going to be best for me. So I’m really okay with having less if it’s what You want for me.” Can we honestly say the same thing? We can, if we believe the Lord knows what’s best for us. And when you really think it through, why wouldn’t He? Doesn’t He see everything about us from beginning to end? Aren’t His motives pure and untainted by sin? Be wise, and be fully persuaded: The Lord knows what’s best for you.
