Something to think about: Scenario #1- Theres a kid who wants to like broccoli so badly because he knows how good it is for him. He talks to you about his concerns; it might be nasty, it might give me gas, it might make me puke. Which do you do? Sit there and tell him how horrible it was for you when you ate broccoli? How bad the gas hurt and how it was the worse tasting thing youve ever had? OR do you tell him it sometimes is an acquired taste? That theres ways to get through gas where it doesnt bother you so much? Scenario #2: Youve dreamed of parachuting out of a plane. Its been your dream since you could remember. For years youve prepared yourself for the, yes, possible dangers, but you educated yourself and are ready to do it. Youve never been so excited in your life. As her friend/family do you tell her how stupid she is for doing something so dangerous? How shes going to die? All the different ways something could go wrong? How uncle bobs best friends dogs neighbors sister died jumping from a plane. OR since you love her and care and KNOW how much education she has done, you support her. Pat her on the back for empowering herself into following her dream? Most of us know the right thing to do even if we may have had a negative experience or know someone who has. I ask that we as women STOP putting fear into fellow women by telling them horror stories of labor/delivering. Instilling fear into women is keeping them from having the confidence to do what our bodies are made to do. Be kind. Be positive. Encourage her. Dont bring her down.
