Something to think about for the cold weekend coming: the affect - TopicsExpress

Something to think about for the cold weekend coming: the affect of temperature on your muscles. Temperature affects the ability of muscles to contract. It is increasingly difficult for muscle to contract in cold temperatures than in warmer conditions. Now for the geeky bit….Temperature affects the ability of oxygen to be released from the haemoglobin in your blood. When it is cold, oxygen is tightly bound to the haemoglobin and does not release easily. This leads to a lower amount of oxygen available to your muscles, making contraction more difficult and resulting in stiffness and potential injury to the muscle tissue. The opposite happens in warm temperatures; oxygen readily releases from haemoglobin giving your muscles a steady supply allowing them to contract easily. So if you are going to do any exercise this weekend ensure you warm up your muscles beforehand, even if the ambient temperature is not that cold. Gentle stretching exercises can help improve the circulation to the muscles and prevent injuries. Stretch the muscle groups you are about to use before each work out. Have a great weekend, if you do unfortunately pick up any injuries dont forget to contact Felpham Massage Therapy for an appointment, I now have an ergonomically designed massage chair for those who just need a back and neck massage.
