Something to think about this morning. This is a bit of a long post, but please read it over and tell me what you think. Also, its early in the morning, so correct my math if Im wrong. How many of you would be willing to donate $1 to the Community Center? $1. Thats less than the price of a Coke from the vending machine at work. Lets do the math. Theres roughly 500 people on this Whitesburg page. If everyone donated $1, we could put $500 in the bank. $500 would pay our electric bill for almost the whole year. What if everyone gave $1 a month (or $12 a year)? $500 a month. The only bills we have that I know of are the electric bill, the water bill, and our property insurance/taxes. Our electric runs $30-$70 a month. Our water is around $22 a month. Im not sure on our property insurance and taxes, but lets say its $1000 a year, or less than $10 a month. So, we have $100 a month in bills. If everyone donated $1 a month, that would be $500 in donations - $100 in bills = $400 a month in the bank for us to use for projects and events. $400 a month would be $4,800 a year in the bank. Lets go one step further. What if everyone donated $1 a WEEK (or $52 a year)? $500 a week would be roughly $2,000 a month, $26,000 a year! $2,000 a month - $100 a month in bills = $1,900 a month in the savings account. Can you guys imagine what we could do with that? The Community Center property needs a lot of work. Even just a few thousand dollars would make a huge difference. First and foremost would be to get the property in good shape. Once we did that, we could start doing other stuff. Think of things that need to be done in the community. How cool would it be if we could take some of our money and donate new playground equipment for the school? We could adopt more less fortunate families at Christmas. We could have events at Community Center that would be fun for the community. We could buy a projector and screen and show outdoor movies in the summer. We could get internet service at the Center and start teaching computer classes, or maybe get a teacher to offer after-school tutoring to kids. We could have more community education classes like First Aid and CPR. The possibilities are endless! And what if we encouraged people to donate? Maybe we could do like PBS does for their telethon. We could create levels of donations. Then we could give away prizes at those levels, to encourage people to donate. Say, if you donate at this level, well give you a free dinner at a local restaurant. Donate at the next level, well give you a free rental of the Community Center for your kids birthday party or a family reunion. Donate at the next level and well give you a free smoked Boston butt. Make a big enough donation and could do something like a free helicopter ride or a nights stay in a hotel or something. What do you think? And to make it easier on those that wanted to donate, we could set it up where you could automatically have $1 a month or week donated. Im pretty sure we could do that through PayPal or maybe even through our bank. If you dont have to fool with paying it manually every month, you wont even notice youre doing it. So...thoughts. Ideas. Comments. Questions. Lets hear what you guys think. And how many of you would be willing to help like this?
