Something weird just happened which was very much like another incident a couple of months back. I was eating a late lunch at a fast food joint when a well-dressed black woman at a nearby table struck up a conversation with me. I had noticed her on her phone and computer conducting business, but I hadn’t thought anything of her. She was friendly and asked what I do. Since it’s a little bit complicated to explain what I do right now, I just told her I was a writer. She was curious about the specifics, but I was vague. She then said, “I was curious what you do because while we were sitting here, I felt the Lord tell me you have a message the world must hear.” I didn’t know what to say, so I just said, “Really? What’s my important message?” sort of jokingly. But she remained completely serious and said, “I don’t know. That’s why I was curious what you do, because I thought maybe that would tell me what your message is.” (Obviously, I’m reconstructing her quotes, but the essence of them is accurate.) I told her that I don’t know that I have anything special to tell the world, mostly because I didn’t know how to respond. She said, “You have something the world has to hear — and a woman will help you be heard. The Lord is using you.” About that time, I got up to leave, politely telling her bye as I got up. She asked my name and I told her. “I’m going to be hearing about you again,” she said. “I’ll be waiting to see how the Lord is using you.” And that was it. The exchange seemed ethereal to me but she acted as though it was perfectly normal. She was well-educated and well-spoken. It was quite odd, especially after the man at the courthouse a couple of months ago.
