Sometime around the year 1986 I met Dweezil. He was very, very young. Just out of an egg. He had an attitude going from his first heartbeats. Not much to say about Dweezil. He has been with me for that many years. It is hard for many to understand, and for me to describe, the love. Theres just something about his spirit that helps me through things. We have traveled cross-country numerous times, lived in different homes in different situations. So often it is in a day I wonder about working it out so that I can stay home with these guys - Pasha, Guido, Dweezil ... and Amazons Brows & George ... and cats Romeo, Moondance, Skylark & Simba. I still think about the great heart of Marcus who left us last summer. And find great joy in bringing this outstanding puppy Mina into our home. If I could I would. But not yet, apparently. Someday I hope. I think of all the ways that humans hunt each other. Sometimes with great and thoughtless actions that devastate communities. Sometimes with small sarcasms and unkindnesses that defeat and wear us down. When I think of Tamara, the woman I am married to and love, and I reflect on all the great animal critters in my life, I just really want to be a better human. Well, it cant hurt, I suppose, in the larger order of things.
