Sometime in seventh or eighth grade I learned to type. I learned - TopicsExpress

Sometime in seventh or eighth grade I learned to type. I learned my home keys and still remember how to center a word on a page - this was LONG before the invention of word processing programs. And one more thing thats stuck in my memory bank forever: double-spacing after each period and colon - any punctuation mark that ends a sentence). Just like Ive been doing in this post. And while I dont use the proper fingers to tap the corresponding keys, this typing course has served me well in my career (cops get to write a lot of reports) and my passion later in life - writing. I just hit the 13,000 word mark in my new book; a book I hope to send off to a few publishers by years end. Im proud of myself in keeping the goal I set for writing 1000 words a day. I dont know how many words are in the average sentence, but some simple math reveals that unless I have one REALLY long run-on sentence, there are more then a few periods and colons in my manuscript so far. Do you wanna know what hit me last night as I closed the laptop after reaching the 13,000 word count? Books arent published with double-spaces after each punctuation mark at the end of every sentence! Nope, I remember when I sent in the manuscript from Can I get There From Here? and heard back from the first editor that I had to go back and single-space every sentence. Anyone wanna take a guess on what Ill be spending most of the morning doing? Forty years of practice leads to muscle memory that aint as easy as it seems to undo... Heres wishing everyone a day where we realize its never too late to go back and fix our mistakes!
